Serving in the Air Guard isn’t easy. It all starts with Basic Training, an 8-week course designed to test and build your physical and mental stamina, and to give you the foundational skills you need to become an Airman. Check out the information on this page to learn more about the opportunities that await you.
In Basic Training, you'll push yourself through some of the most intense physical and mental training of your life. You'll learn essential combat and survival, battlefield communications, and equipment operation and maintenance skills.
Towards the end of Basic Training, you'll be placed in situations that put your new skills immediately to the test. These include simulated hand-to-hand combat exercises with fellow Airmen, and Basic Expeditionary Airman Skills Training (BEAST), which gives you the chance to showcase your leadership ability.
After Basic Training, you’ll go to Technical School to learn skills specific to your chosen AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code). The length of time you spend in Tech School will vary depending on your AFSC.
You'll get paid for the time you spend in Basic Training and Technical School. But the real benefits of the advanced career training you get during Tech School are even better than a paycheck. You'll be learning skills that set you up to excel doing a job you love.
