Everyone's path to military service is different. The decision to join the Air National Guard can open up plenty of new opportunities, but before you make that decision, you should have a good understanding of how the process works. Whether you've served before or are completely new to the military, the information on this page is intended to answer many of the questions you may have about joining.

Your ANG Journey

The Air National Guard can help you pay for college while equipping you with the skills and experience employers seek. Take the following steps to begin your own rewarding experience in the Air Guard while pursuing a college degree or advancing your civilian career.

To qualify for the Air Guard, you must be 17 to 39 (the age limit exceeds 40 for medical professionals and chaplains), a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, be a high school senior or have a high school diploma or GED.

Find a Base

The Air Guard has over 140 units in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. This means you'll likely work at an Air Guard unit close to your hometown, serving your own community. Find a base that you are interested in learning more about.

Choose Your Career

Once you've learned about where you might serve, explore career opportunities in the Air Guard that align with your skills and interests. After you've selected a career, you can visit your local base to make an appointment with a recruiter to talk about becoming a member.

Make the Commitment

Once you've met eligibility requirements and taken the ASVAB exam, you're ready to start becoming a member. Now it's time to prepare for Basic Military Training.
