This mission will win tomorrow's battles by utilizing sophisticated aircraft equipped with the newest technology to provide the most up-to-date information to battlefield commanders. Airborne Warning Command and Control Systems operators serving as battle managers will fly on surveillance aircraft operating computerized airborne radar sensors and electronic countermeasure equipment to provide invaluable intelligence to ground, air and sea commanders involved in the battles. They will maintain communication nets available to these commanders and gather, record, display, control and distribute information necessary for battlefield success.
The E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System's (Joint STARS) primary mission is to conduct ground surveillance and provide intelligence to ground and air commanders. This surveillance is critical for troop success. With its multifaceted abilities, this aircraft can support a variety of missions and roles, from peacekeeping to air and ground combat.
