Scientific Mission

Over the past 25 years, the Air National Guard has aided the National Science Foundation in establishing over 100 remote sites. Sustainment of operations in these far remote locations requires the capability of the heavy airlift aircraft to provide enough fuel, equipment and supplies to keep researchers safe and able to conduct their science missions. All Antarctic locations are supported by our LC-130 aircraft utilizing its ability for ski take-offs and landings.
