When you’re working with potentially dangerous drugs and medicines, precise action and attention to detail is key. The role of the Pharmacy Specialist is to interpret, fill and dispense prescriptions for hospitalized patients, and prepare doses to be given within the hospital. You’ll need to perform mathematical calculations to determine the amount of ingredients needed to compound drugs in forms not available from manufacturers, and safeguard chemicals, drugs, and mild narcotics that are potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. As a Pharmacy Specialist, you’ll also be learning the ins and outs of managing a first-class pharmacy, as well as the characteristics and purposes of a vast array of medicines, which is a skill set that you can use to advance in a civilian pharmaceutical career as well.
