In Savannah, we focus on Air Mobility, a mission that delivers global air transportation of equipment and supplies during times of war and for peacetime training exercises. This includes providing safe, comfortable and reliable transportation of military personnel or dignitaries anywhere in the world. Additional missions include Command and Control, Air Support Operations, Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and Individual Training.
The 165th Airlift Wing is located at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Georgia. The165th AW, which currently flies the C-130H cargo aircraft, was created after World War II in 1946. The unit was officially mobilized first for the Korean War and then again for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 165th provides air transport for airborne forces, their equipment and supplies with delivery by airdrop or airland, and to provide strategic airlift of personnel, equipment and supplies.
