In St. Joseph, we focus on Air Mobility, a mission that delivers global air transportation of equipment and supplies during times of war and for peace-time training exercises. This includes providing safe, comfortable and reliable transportation of military personnel or dignitaries anywhere in the world. In addition we perform a Homeland Defense mission, along with the responsibility of providing support to the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center (AATTC).
The 139th Airlift Wing, located at St. Joseph, remains globally engaged in continuing operations by providing the state and nation with immediately deployable, combat ready C-130 H model aircraft. The wing also provides assistance to the other branches by aiding them with transport, training, and medical assistance. The 139th Airlift Wing has its roots in the formation of the 180th Bombardment Squadron, which was one of the first federally recognized Air National Guard units in the nation.
