The first to provide security over New York on 9/11, the 158th Fighter Wing was organized on July 1st 1945 - the fifth Air Guard unit to be formed. The 158th mission is to provide the U.S. Air Force with combat-ready personnel and equipment for utilization during times of war and national or emergency.
